Behavior Questionnaire Results
To better understand how behavior was determined for the person you have chosen, we recommend that you read about Psychological Associates’ Dimensional Model of Behavior.
Q2 Direct Report: Avoids/Low Regard Behavior
Based upon your responses, when scored against our Dimensional Model, your direct report most often exhibits an avoids/low regard style of behavior. This style of behavior would be positioned in the Q2 quadrant of our Dimensional Model. In our terminology, your direct report is displaying Q2 behavior.
Key Characteristics of Q2 Direct Report Behavior
Q2 actions play it by the book. Q2 is happy with the way things are‚ and wants to keep them that way. Q2 is very cautious‚ with a “watch-my-step” mind-set around the boss.
See if any of these Q2 behaviors seem familiar:
- Being unresponsive. Avoids participation in conversation. Rarely disagrees. Is withdrawn.
- Acting self-protective. Resists offering thoughts and opinions, and is consequently hard to read. Won’t be caught out on a limb.
- Procrastinating. Postpones actions when possible, because putting things off is safer than taking action.
- Thinking “live and let live.” Apathetic; keeps to self. “Don’t bother me and I won’t bother you” attitude.
Suggestions for Dealing with a Q2 Direct Report
- Be helpful, not threatening. Guide gently but firmly.
- Space out your ideas. Don’t bunch too many together. Discuss one idea at a time. Invite feedback with an open-end question, then pause until he responds.
- Be prepared for withdrawal. Don’t interpret withdrawal as agreement.
- Show genuine interest. Build trust.
- Don’t be too friendly, personal, or intense. Be patient. Slow your pace.
- Be prepared to adapt your approach if the direct report’s behavior shifts to another quadrant.
